Shred Fest returns: Free and secure shredding event Friday, Oct. 18

Shred Fest is back!

It's happening Friday, Oct. 18, and is an opportunity for you to get your sensitive information shredded free and safely.

FOX 25's Wayne Stafford got to tour the RiteWay Shredding facility to find out how they make it happen.

"So right now we're placing the paper on the conveyer and we're making sure there's no contaminant as it goes up into the shredder,"Justin White, the owner of RiteWay Shredding said. "Go ahead and dump it in, go ahead and empty the box make sure there is nothing else in here, throw the box behind you, and there you go that's it."

From there the paper gets munched, chomped, chewed, minced, grated, pulverized, and then if there's time, shredded!

Then this river of puny paper pieces banks the corner to be perfectly processed.

"So it'll run up into here, creates a large bale of paper, weighs about 1,300 pounds, and here depending on the quality of the paper we'll put it in one of two semi-trailers and it'll go directly to the mill," White said.

It takes RiteWay Shredding about 6 weeks to process it and recycle it back on the shelf into a usable product.

They process about 200 tons a month out of this facility.
