With the weather taking a turn for the worse, the days of watching the washing blowing in the fresh summer breeze are over until next year but that doesn't mean you can't dry clothes outside.

People are always looking for alternatives to turning on the electricity-sapping tumble dryer and one mother has come up with a genius hack to solve the problem.

For those that don't have tumble dryers or radiators to help with the process, this time of year can be incredibly challenging, not to mention the price of rising energy and heating bills.

One mum found an unusual way of drying her clothes as she put her freshly washed items in a plastic greenhouse outside.

She explained that it gets the job done and has helped her avoid taking up space indoors with a big airer.

Sharing her inventive hack, she wrote on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook.

She said: "Thought I would share my clothes drying hack. Not for everyone but works for us. A £46 plastic greenhouse."

"We don't have room for large airers indoors and also not ideal to have wet washing around due to having asthmatic children.

"We only have storage heaters so can't dry clothes on them either, come the spring I will use the greenhouse for its proper purpose and grow plants with my children."

Fellow group members were blown away by her resourcefulness with her post getting over 4,000 likes.

She inspired many other people who decided they would give her drying trick a go.

One person shared: "This is a fantastic idea! I don't have a garden, but I do have an enclosed balcony that I dry washing on, usually with the aid of a dehumidifier.

"If I get a smaller greenhouse I can pop it over the airer and dehumidifier and it should dry quicker too, saving more on the cost of the dehumidifier.

"I'm super happy you posted as it's not something I'd have thought of."

A second commenter wrote: "Love this idea! I hang washing on hangers under my gazebo and pop the airers under there so they don't get wet if it rains.

"But we need to take the canopy off soon and this seems like a brilliant alternative!"

A third person said: "This would be great with a heated drying rack. The tent would contain the heat.
