A 1.5 mile stretch on the South Chickamauga Creek Greenway will be temporarily closed from the Camp Jordan Access point in East Ridge to the Brainerd Road Trailhead beginning November 18.
The closing will accommodate the development of a new wastewater management system by Chattanooga's Wastewater Department which is projected to be completed by Summer of 2027.
As a part of this initiative, they will construct two $1.5-million-gallon above ground storage tanks at 6000 Cornelison Road, adjacent to Camp Jordan Park.
Work will be completed by Brassfield & Gorrie Construction.
To minimize disruptions to the community, the City of East Ridge will close and lock the gate over the bridge at Camp Jordan Park.
Clear signage will be posted at all affected area, the press release said.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the public's cooperation as they work to enhance the wastewater infrastructure in the community moving forward," city officials wrote. "This investment will significantly improve the City of Chattanooga’s ability to manage wastewater, protecting our environment and ensuring a healthier, more sustainable community for generations to come."
For more information, call the City of Chattanooga Wastewater Department at 311 or 423-653-6311, or the City of East Ridge Parks and Recreation Department at 423-805-3110.
Updates on the project's progress will be shared on the city's social media platforms.
The South Chickamauga Creek Greenway stretches 12 miles from Camp Jordan to the Tennessee Riverwalk.
