Oswego County TodayCity of Oswego Awarded Two Grants for Upgrades at the Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant

OSWEGO – The City of Oswego was recently awarded two grants for secondary treatment process upgrades at the Westside Wastewater Treatment Plant (WSWWTP). A Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) grant for $ 5,300,000 and a Water Infrastructure Improvement Act (WIIA) grant for $ 2,650,000 for a total of $ 7,950,000.

The project will replace the aeration system, modify the secondary clarifiers, replace motor centers, and provide HVAC and electrical upgrades to the facility. The project is currently in the design phase and construction will likely be bid in the spring of 2025. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $ 10,600,000.

The Westside Waste Treatment Plant located at 2 First Avenue was constructed in 1974 to provide preliminary treatment, primary clarification, activated sludge, and chlorination to an average design flow of 8 million gallons per day and has a staff of 8 employees. In addition to this $10,600,000 project being planned, the City of Oswego has invested approximately 21 million dollars in the WSWWTP and the Excess Flow Management Facility (EFMF) on West First street over the previous 9 years.
